VACANCY: research Manager - SANCCOB - 19 October 2016

SANCCOB, a leading marine conservation non-profit organization, seeks to employ a Research Manager (based in Table View, Cape Town) to join their dynamic team.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership to place SANCCOB as a thought leader in seabird conservation
  • Conduct applied research in the following areas:
    • Rehabilitation techniques
    • Disease in the wild
    • Post release monitoring
  • Publish regularly in peer reviewed scientific literature
  • Present research findings at relevant conferences, meetings and workshops
  • Provide internal thought leadership
  • Ensure SANCCOB remains at the front of current scientific thinking
  • Ensure research findings are fed back into organisational protocols (e.g. rehab techniques)
  • Build strong partnerships with relevant academic institutions and other seabird researchers
  • Develop collaborative projects
  • Co-supervise masters and PhD students
  • Manage the research department
  • Personnel management, budget, administration, work planning
  • Assist in fundraising
  • Management of data generated by SANCCOB including the analysis of the data.

 

Requirements:

  • PhD in a seabird or marine related field
  • At least five years’ experience
  • A significant publication record
  • A sound knowledge of seabird biology, conservation issues affecting seabirds, conservation practices and principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and networking skills Ability to lead a team and be part of a team Willing and able to travel and regularly conduct fieldwork
  • A valid Code B driver’s license
