Umgeni Water

Umgeni Water is a state-owned business enterprise. Established in 1974, it has developed into one of Africa?s most successful water management companies. The organisation proudly occupies the position of the second- largest bulk water supply utility in South Africa. It supplies about 353 million kilolitres of clean drinking water to almost 4.8 million people annually within a radius of 24000 square kilometres. The primary business of Umgeni Water is to treat and supply bulk potable water to municipalities. Its customers include the eThekwini Municipality (which includes the City of Durban), Msunduzi Municipality (which includes the City of Pietermaritzburg), as well as several other municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal.

Water resource planning; catchment management; operation/maintenance of large and small water and wastewater works; water, wastewater and industrial effluent control; pollution prevention and control; process design, construction, commissioning of works and quality management systems; health, safety and environmental services; environmental education. These activities are supported by state-of-the-art ISO-accredited laboratory services.
