Ethekwini Municipality (Parks Department)

The Department's objectives include the administration, development and maintenance of all parks and open spaces covering over 4500 hectares, over 500 children's playgrounds and 180 recreation playing fields:Over 60 prime parks of horticultural and floral attraction

• Freeway and main arterial road landscapes and tree plantings.
• Six major natural system parks and several other natural reserves/also education resources and visitors centres an indigenous and medicinal plant nursery
• The Durban Metropolitan Openspace System (D'MOSS) which is a planned integrated system to ecologically link and incorporate over 1416 hectares of openspace from nine parks utilising existing parkland, openspace river valleys and coastal land.
• The 14.5 hectare Durban Botanic Gardens including guided tours and horticultural education programmes.
• The production of over 5 million trees, shrubs and groundcovers annually
• The cutting of overgrowth of over 4 million square metres of verge in the City
• Supporting over 300 agricultural projects, improving food security amongst the poor
• Support Agribusiness
