VACANCY: DIRECTOR COLLECTIONS & DIGITISATION - Iziko Museums - 14 September 2016

Basic Salary Range: R487 212 – R659 160per annum, plus benefits


Requirements:
Masters’ Degree in a field that relates to natural or social history research/museum -At least five years’ experience of managing museum collections -Leadership skills -Sound understanding of legislation and policies governing heritage -Understanding of PFMA -Excellent planning and organisational skills -Good writing and effective communication skills -Working experience of MS Office Suite at Intermediate Level -Valid drivers’ license.

 

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Giving strategic direction to the Collections and Digitisation Department
  • Merge and rationalise all the collections at Iziko
  • Spearhead a new department that will add (research and public access) value to collection management
  • Development and implementation of Collections Development Strategy
  • Collections management, including libraries and museum archive
  • Managing the digital archive 
  • Gap analysis and collection growth
  • Performance management 
  • Strategic planning 
  • Policy development
  • Staff development
  • Project management 
  • Risk management
  • Improving methodologies and workflows
  • Research oriented approach to collections management 
  • Ensuring that the collection is accessible to researchers
  • Revenue generation 
  • Management of copyrights 
  • Making collections virtually accessible 
  • Budgeting -Report writing
  • Developing close working relationships with relevant stakeholders.
SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary quoted above does not include benefits. Iziko benefits comprise generous contributions towards a designated retirement fund (compulsory), a designated medical aid (voluntary) and a housing subsidy (voluntary). Other employment conditions such as working hours and leave entitlement are also generous.
