New Seven Wonders - vote for Table Mountain! - 31 December 2011
Table Mountain has gone through as South Africa's nomination in the first round of voting for the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World!
There are seven categories, with Table Mountain in the Mountains & Volcanoes section.
But right now, our mountain is sitting at Number Eight out of the Ten mountains listed. If we don't start voting, Table Mountain isn't going to make it through to the next round.
Mount Fogo CAPE VERDE
Mount Karthala COMOROS
Mount Nimba, Mountain CÔTE D'IVOIRE
Mount Sinai EGYPT
Pico Basilé EQUATORIAL GUINEA
Mount Kenya KENYA
The Barn SAINT HELENA
Table Mountain SOUTH AFRICA
Marrah Mountains SUDAN
Mount Nyangani ZIMBABWE
We have until 7 July to get Table Mountain onto the shortlist (see process below).
Please encourage your networks and staff members to vote online for Table Mountain (and any other six natural wonders) at http://www.new7wonders.com/nature/en/
Just imagine Table Mountain being known as the world's iconic mountain?
WE know it's a wonder ... now let's tell the rest of the world. [Just think of the spin-offs as children and adults around the world get to learn about OUR mountain and OUR city through this top seven list!]
There are three stages in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign: the National Qualification, the Nomination stage and the Finalist stage:
- On 1 January 2009, only one national nominee per country will be allowed to proceed: [That's Table Mountain for South Africa] the highest ranked in the voting on 31 December 2008. Therefore until the end of 2008, countries with more than one nominee will be racing to choose the national representative that is allowed to continue into 2009. Nominees shared by more than one country will remain and continue into 2009.
- In the Nomination stage, voting for nominees will continue through July 7, 2009. [This is where we are now] Then the New7Wonders of Nature Panel of Experts, under the leadership of Prof. Federico Mayor, former Director-General of UNESCO, will review the top 77 nominees and choose the 21 finalists, to be announced on 21 July 2009.
- For the Finalist stage, the 21 New7Wonders of Nature Finalists will be put to popular vote in July 2009. Voting will continue throughout 2010 and into 2011. During this time, the New7Wonders World Tour will visit each of the Finalists to allow them to present themselves to the voters across the globe.
The final declaration of the New7Wonders of Nature will be in 2011.
