SANBI Launches New Biodiversity GIS Website - 13 December 2007
SANBI launched its new Biodiversity GIS website on 1 November 2007. The website was redeveloped to provide easier access to biodiversity planning information, and supportive tools to assist with land-use decision-making.
Features of the redesigned website include:
- Free access to over 120 GIS data layers and 34 biodiversity planning and related project reports.
- The ability to perform a biodiversity assessment against a selected cadastre. The Land-Use Decision Support tool takes the user through a three-step process to generate a report of biodiversity planning data against a land-parcel and to export the area of interest to Google Earth.
- The ability to search for projects per municipality using the Municipal Biodiversity Plan Index
- The ability to upload and map species distribution data from a GPS using the Species Distribution Mapping tool
- Updated training material
